History |
Khmer Youth Association (KYA) is a humanitarian, non-political party, non-governmental and non-partisan organization working in the area of human resources development, gender, human rights, environment, and democratic development.
KYA was set up because we realized that young people are main factors and important elements in the national and international development and peace. Youth participation is a special mechanism to build a democratic society. Through national and international interest, youths have to try their best to join all activities and show responsibility for their families, communities, nations and indeed the world. The youth voice is a main challenge of political atmosphere and it will support the country to reach prosperity, peace, justice, good governance, democracy, and sustainable development.
KYA was established on November 22, 1992 and was recognized by the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) on November 30, 1992. Moreover, KYA was recognized by the Ministry of Interior, Cambodia on February 21, 1994. |
Vision and Mission |

Our vision is to have a potential youth, to work with youths and for youths, for a social positive change. Our mission is to upgrade and promote youth participation in human rights, democracy, peace building, health, gender equality, education and vocational training for young people in Cambodia. KYA strives toward an improved framework for respecting human rights, democracy and the empowerment of young people by government and other stakeholders with the principles that encourage youth participation and recognize youth's roles and work. |
What we do |
- promote and encourage young Cambodians in democratic and development processes in order to fight corruption and maintain sustainable peace in Cambodia
- promote and improve vocational training and education for young people to have more skills and experiences to develop the nation
- promote human rights, democracy, health and gender equality among young people
- encourage youth participation in protection of the environment, human rights and national heritage
- increase cooperation with concerned institutions, national and international NGOs to promote youth policies

Our Target Groups |
|
Primary Target Group
Youth and children of both sexes, especially the most at risk and vulnerable groups which include students, street children, unemployed youth, dropouts and child/youth laborers in schools and communities, the age group is from 12-35 years.
Secondary Target Group
Citizens who play an influential role on youth and children, especially teachers, monks, parents, local authorities and people in decision making positions. Here, there's no age limit. |
Where we work |

KYA has got its staff members who work full-time in the central office in Phnom Penh as well as in eight provincial branch-offices- Siem Reap, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kampong Cham, Prey Veng, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces. Moreover, KYA is working in other provinces and cities, where there are no KYA offices, too. |
