Drug Awareness and Prevention among Youth

Drug Campaign and Activity

Overview

Since 2003 this unit attempts to increase the knowledge about the risk of drug use and abuse among vulnerable groups. The Prevention Project first started as a pilot project in Phnom Penh. In 2004, the project extended to Siem Reap, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey. To decrease the abuse of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs like jama or glue KYA uses several methods:

Trainings are offered in schools or youth organisations to raise awareness and provide knowledge even to local authorities. Workshops with related topics are organized where experts are explaining the current situation, policies, visions and activities.

Public campaigns with banners and loudspeakers are organized to inform the people about the dangers of drug abuse and our activities.

Our trained peer educators talk to students, street children and youths who dropped out of school, explaining and showing the disadvantages, risks and dangers of drug abuse using posters and give-aways like leaflets.

what we do ?

The aim of the DAP project is Less illicit drugs related problems and harmfulness in society. The project is able to produce forum theaters, workshop, and trainings to transform knowledge of drug to young Cambodia people at the seleceted areas. Young people from selected areas, then, will learn the consequences of the drug and they will live away from it. As a strategy, we are using the following:

  • In School and Community Training
  • Stakeholder workshop
  • Youth Club/Network
  • Youth Learning/Sports Centre

what we want ?

The aim of the drug prevention project is to improve the living conditions of vulnerable groups in the Cambodian society, to reduce the rate of drug users and to ascertain whether small-scale illicit drug prevention initiatives in urban areas have an impact upon reducing the trend in drug abuse amongst specific at-risk groups. The drug prevention in schools is starting at grade 6.
