ASEAN People Forum, Bangkok , Thailand
|
In reference to the upcoming 14 th ASEAN Summit in Hua Hin , Thailand , this consists of ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and also agendas on ASEAN human rights body, ASEAN Charter and economic cooperation.
We, the member-organization of the regional network Young Progressives Southeast Asia (YPSEA), as a one member of ASEAN community, call on the ASEAN and all ASEAN governments as follow: |

1.Toward the integration of ASEAN community, to achieve the "People- oriented" Principle on the ASEAN Charter, we demand youth's meaningful participation and engagement in all ASEAN mechanisms or bodies.
2.To ensure that the establishment of the ASEAN human rights body in upcoming future would not be only the promise in the plain paper, it need to:
- achieve the Paris Principle as a minimum standard of the human rights institution, and ensure of independence and accessibility;
- have the constituted mandate of both promotion and protection;
- ensure the effective body by constituted some exceptions of the non-interference and respect of the state sovereignty principle in the case of the severe human rights violations in the region
3.To present the sincerity to the ASEAN community, Myanmar government needs to show their effort to achieve the same goals of others members countries, promotion and protection of human rights, by stop all human rights violations and immediately release all political prisoners.
4. According the world's conclusions on sustainable development, only the commercialized cooperation can never achieve the mutual sustainable prosperity, therefore we urge:
- ASEAN to have the blueprint of ASEAN Social Welfare to ensure the minimum standard for all ASEAN people would be recognized and provided by their governments;
- ASEAN governments stop the privatization of all fundamental rights especially education, water, electricity and health care.

The YPSEA is a regional organization of young progressives aimed at creating political exchange and communication in order to promote democracy, equality and human rights in Southeast Asia . It was established in 2004 and was formally set up in 2006 in Phnom Penh , Cambodia . Its membership consists of 15 progressive youth organizations from Cambodia , Indonesia , Malaysia , the Philippines , Thailand , and Timor Leste. Current YPSEA Executive Committee members are Adonis Elumbre (AKBAYAN! Citizen's Action Party Youth Wing - AKBAYAN! Youth) , Erwin Razak (Pergerakan Indonesia - PI) and Kodchawan Chaiyabutr (Young People for Democracy Movement and the regional coordinator for the YPSEA). |
