Media Project

What we do

The aim of the media project - as well as the prevention project - is a society with fewer drug related problems, and especially reduced drug abuse among young people. As a strategy, we are using the following:

• Mobile Team
• Youth Clubs
• Trainings and Workshops for the Youth Clubs
• Mailboxes

Our students and youth we work with are between 13-25 years old, with a focus on students in lower and upper secondary school. As a second group, we target policy makers and politicians, youth leaders, parents and other adults.

Mobile Team

The Mobile Team consists of ten team members. Those members all joined a basic training on DAT (which stands for Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco). As a method they are using role plays and forum theater (participation theater) which they show in the provinces. There they go 4 times a month to get in contact with the citizens and to educate them. Follow-up dicsussions are being held.

Forum Theater as a method

The Mobile Team is using the forum theater. This is performed for young people in schools, youth clubs etc. and the audience has the possibility to participate and replace actors in order to find own solutions to the problems. Youth Clubs

All in all we are running 16 youth clubs with 320 members. The youth clubs are situated in Phnom Penh (3), Siem Reap (3), Battambang (2) and Bantaey Meanchey (4). Each year we provide 4 workshops for the youth clubs in each province. In addition to that we organize a mixed workshop once a year.

2. What is the danger and effect of consuming drugs to the body?
3. What is the danger and effect of consuming drugs to your mental state?
4. What is the effect and impact to the family if there is a drug user in the family?
5. What is the effect and impact to the society if there are drug users?
6. What can the people do to reduce drug usage?
7. What would you do if you had a friend or relative getting addicted to drugs?
8. Do you think you are safe if there are a lot of drug users in your community?
9. Is there any punishment if speaking about drug disadvantages in public?
10. Does tasting or using drugs count as modern or not?
11. Can drug using cause HIV/AIDS transmission or not?
12. What does drug using have in common with banditry?
13. Does it have an effect on the parents' reputation if their children consume drugs? Why?
14. If children consume drugs, are they still grateful to their parents? Why?

Mailboxes

We are using 12 mailboxes which are placed in schools in the provinces. Students can put letters inside with questions that are related to drugs. The Drug Unit of KYA will answer them eventually. By this, students have a good opportunity to get deeper into the topic and also to stay in contact with KYA.
